I must admit that, while this is not his best work, (Nothing can beat "Paper Towns") it is still one of the best reads of the year for me. Fully fun, challengingly complex and entirely entertaining. Colin and Hassan regularly use the words fug, fugging and fugger as stand-ins for the actual f-word (which also appears occasionally). But, in this book, it really works. David Levithan. When the boys are hired to collect oral histories of the town, their attachment to the small-town folk is cemented by cruising main street and hunting wild boar.
His story is gripping from the very beginning. I loved it when Hassan told him how selfish he was then later decided that he (Hassan) was the selfish one. Questions remain about what happened in the moments leading to Khalil’s death, and the only witness is Starr, who must now decide what to say or do, if anything.
